"Scaltech can recycle 100% of waste stream."
Coke Recycling
The most cost effective method of sludge recycling is delayed coker injection. The advantages of coker recycling include:
- Solids recycled as part of the coke
- Lowest total cost
- Waste remains on site
- No transportation or disposal costs
Scaltech International believes that the optimal time to recycle waste solids is during the quenching cycle. Quech-cycle injection offers the following advantages over coking cycle injection:
- No interruption of the coking process
- Does not subject the coking process to abrasive waste solids
- Does not impact coker charge capacity
Scaltech’s process involves injecting processed waste solids in a water slurry replacing a portion of the normal quench water. The slurry should be uniform and have the following attributes:
- No free oil
- Good pumpability
- Small particle size
The slurry product of Scaltech’s processing can be tailored to provide a range of solids content to meet the thermal needs of the coker and simultaneously maximize the recycle rate of refinery waste solids.
Scaltech has successfully used its MX1000 Vertical Disk Centrifuge and the company proprietary quench-cycle injection process at three major US refineries. This process has shown several advantages over direct injection or unprocessed (raw) sludges:
- Does not foul coke
- No noxious odors
- High waste solids recycling rates
- Excellent coker operator acceptance
Coker Performance History
The following table shows data collected from two refineries currently using Scaltech’s proprietary quench-cycle injection process.
Before Scaltech’s process was applied, both refineries attempted quench cycle injection of unprocessed sludge for several years. In both cases daily loading of less than 200 bbls with only a fraction of a ton of solids was achieved.
